Today, we celebrate VUU student Nyrah Smith-Mayfield who is spending the summer conducting scientific research at Florida A & M University.
Smith-Mayfield is a biology major and undergraduate Community Culture Research Scholar. She and Dr. Ahkinyala Cobb-Abdullah, Associate Professor in Natural Sciences at VUU joined the Environmental Microbiology Team of Dr. Henry Williams. Dr. Cobb-Abdullah serves as a Co-PI on the National Science foundation (NSF) funded project. Smith-Mayfield will learn lab methods and apply them to investigate the lifecycle and interactions between Shewanella and Vibrio bacteria isolated from seawater and oysters
